DIY - Making "Fake" kitchen drawers functional with hide away storage!

I’ve frequently mentioned the overhaul my house is undergoing. When my husband and I got married we merged all of our belonging and while my husband does have some hoarding tendencies that I am trying to sift through, I also have added to the mountain of sifting that need to be done. My mother died a few months before I made the Tennessee transplant, though it’s been almost 8 years, I am still sorting.
It’s not that my house is incredibly small but it isn’t exactly huge, finding enough space to store and organize seems to have become my ongoing obsession. Pinterest has added to my plethora of ideas and inspiration…..it’s a double edged gift; my brain is often spinning to the point that I don’t know which direction to go. Every now and then I come across an idea that I am able to mold into my own.
My most recent discovery was those “fake” drawer panels in front of my kitchen sink.
I came across this clever Pinterest idea  from All Things Fee, where life meets craft
It’s so simple! I can’t believe I didn’t think of it!
I couldn’t wait to try it myself.
Because my inspiration was for one panel and mine has two, I ended up adding a different twist but it’s still the same idea. Though, I think I may have made mine more complicated because if I had to do it all over again I might have just gone with her idea. I do however like that the hinges I used didn’t require that I add the magnet closures.

First I easily popped off the "fake" drawer panels with a flat head screwdriver
Removed the plastic tabs that had been holding the "fake" drawer panels
Attached to kitchen storage baskets
I took the basket off before moving forward to make attaching the panels easier.
I also left the screws slightly raised so that I could remove the baskets for easy cleaning later.
Added a tension hinge to both sides of each panel
Attached the hinges to the cabinet

Added the baskets and sink cluter
 Ta da!
anyone know the trick to getting that sticky reminisce of calking off of the edges?
Super easy and once I get those dishes washed, my junk is stashed away leaving my sink clutter free!

My in-laws have these hinged drawers under their sink, but I had no idea you could do it yourself! I'm going to show this to my husband!

This is so cool! I would have never believed this would be so easy if you hadn't posted the pics to show how to do it. Loving it :)

That's a neat idea. I know what you mean with the husband hoarding. My hubby gets in the habit of collecting things also and it drives me nuts.
